Results week ending 19th September 2004

EUROPEAN JUNIOR CLUBS CHAMPIONSHIP, FINLAND
Fife AC under 20 Scottish triple jump record holder Nony Mordi, Cupar, was in action at the European Junior Clubs Championship at Tampere, Finland.
Representing north London club Shaftesbury Barnet in conditions more suited to cross-country Nony took three bronze medals. A third place in the 100m hurdles (14.91) was followed by third in the triple jump (11.89m) before helping Shaftesbury to third place in the 4 x 100m relay and overall team victory on the day.

ST. ANDREW’S HOSPICE 10K, STRATHCLYDE PARK
Over 40 veteran Hugh McKay, Dundee, made a welcome return to competition placing third out of 2533 finishers at the St. Andrew’s Hospice 10km road race at Strathclyde Park. Hugh clocked 34 minutes 32 seconds behind winner Carl Heaven (Annan) – 32.46, taking the first veteran award.

CITY OF STIRLING 10K
Six hundred runners contested the City of Stirling 10km road race where Bryce Aitken, Kirkcaldy, was the first club runner home placing 25th in 37 minutes 10 seconds. John Gilfillan, Cardenden, placed 41st, second over 50 clocking a fine 38 minutes 47 seconds. Sandra Aitken finished well up the large field in 251st – 47.39.

ARDBLAIR HILL RACE, BONARBRIDGE
Club veteran, John Thomson, Coaltown of Balgonie, made a rare appearance in a hill race winning the Ardblair Hill Race at Bonarbridge. John clocked 29 minutes 54 seconds over the 4 mile course ahead of Dave Wilby (Highland HR) in second – 30.52.

FIFE COASTAL PATH RELAY
Six teams of five trialled a 22 mile coastal path relay from North Queensferry to West Wemyss. The first team home in 2 hours 40 minutes 18 seconds comprised Bob Mustard, Frank McLaren, Alastair Robertson, Mike Mitchell and Margaret McLaren, only fifteen seconds ahead of runners-up Andy Williams, Elliott Simpson, David Shepherd, Ronnie Mill and Malcolm McFie (2:40.23). After 22 miles only fourteen minutes separated first and last teams with all runners enjoying a post-race barbecue back in Kirkcaldy.
Other teams - 3 Sandra Aitken, Caroline Legge, Bryce Aitken, Nigel Fowler, Gary Barker – 2:45.17; 4 Catriona Duncan, Irene Pennycook, Mark Harley, Chris Russell, Doug Gunstone – 2:45.22; 5 Lorraine Simpson, Alan Meiklejohn, Andy Barker, Louise Provan, Alex McGuire – 2:52.36; 6 Hunters Bog Trotters – 2:54.52.

SRI CHINMOY RACE, EDINBURGH
Club junior Natasha McIntosh, Kirkcaldy, had another fine mid-week outing at the final Sri Chinmoy race of the summer at Edinburgh’s Meadows. Natasha finished 46th overall, tenth female, first junior, timed at 13 minutes 44 seconds over the two mile course. Alastair Robertson placed 49th timed at 14 minutes 15 seconds.

CAPITAL CITY 10K CHALLENGE
Additional results – 29 Dusty Spates 34.52, 31 Ian Overton 34.57, 182 John Gilfillan 39.42, 226 Bill Smith 40.21, 292 Leonard Rhone 41.30.
