Results week ending 12th September 2004

SCOTTISH JUNIOR HILL RUNNING CHAMPIONSHIPS
Fife AC junior athletes excelled at the Scottish Junior Hill Running Championships/Trial at Laggan with three runners gaining automatic selection for the Home Countries Junior International in October.
Jennifer Kibble, Balmullo, capped a summer of outstanding success to win the under 16 girls title covering the 4km (700ft ascent) course in 22 minutes 57 seconds well clear of Hilary Armitage (Aberdeen AAC) in second – 24.15.
Matthew Gillespie (Central) won the under 14 boys title over the 2km (350ft) course in 9 minutes 28 seconds chased by Andrew Evans, St.Andrews, (9.44) whose hard work over the Lomond Hills with the Sunday training group brought selection for Scotland at the Keswick Junior International. Joining Jennifer and Andrew in Keswick will be Kirkcaldy runner Elliott Simpson a fine second in the under 16 boy’s race (20.59) behind Martin McLoone (Greenock Glenpark H.) – 20.22.
Mark Harley, Kirkcaldy, placed 8th in the under 19 mens race clocking 34 minutes 14 seconds for the 6km (1050ft) course. Scott Fraser (Lothian), in action for Scotland at the World Junior Championship in Italy the previous week, won with 28 minutes 16 seconds.
Results: Under 19 men. 1 S.Fraser (Lothian RC) 28.16, 2 K.Cowie (Moray RR) 28.55, 3 D.Phee (Giffnock North) 29.32 8 Mark Harley 34.14.
Under 16 Boys. 1 M.McLoone (Greenock Glenpark H.) 20.22, 2 Elliott Simpson (Fife AC) 20.59, 3 D.Thomson (Lothian) 23.32.
Under 16 Girls. 1 Jennifer Kibble (Fife AC) 22.57, 2 H.Armitage (Aberdeen AAC) 24.15, 3 S.McKenzie (Lochaber) 27.11.
Under 14 Boys. 1 M.Gillespie (Central AC) 9.28, 2 Andrew Evans (Fife AC) 9.44, 3 S.Reilly (Central) 10.19.
Under 14 Girls. 1 S.Inglis (Lothian) 11.26, 2 M.Inglis (Lothian) 11.36, 3 C.Clark (Elgin) 11.43.

SCOTTISH 10KM ROAD RACE CHAMPIONSHIPS
Fresh from representing Scotland at the World Hill Championships in Italy, Andrew Liston placed 3rd at the Scottish 10km Road Race Championships incorporated in the Capital City Challenge. Allan Adams (Clydesdale) headed the field of 5,000 runners back to Meadowbank Stadium in 30 minutes 56 seconds with John Newsom (Pitreavie) in second (31.10) and Liston (31.35).

FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY INVITATIONAL CROSS-COUNTRY
Over in the USA, Andrew Lemoncello won his first race stateside – the Florida State University Invitational Cross-Country. Reeling off 4 minute 40 seconds miles for the opening four miles the GB internationalist was so far ahead of the field that he slowed to seven minute miling for the final mile yet still finished over a minute clear of the opposition.

SRI CHINMOY 5KM RACE, EDINBURGH
Under 15 junior Natasha McIntosh, Kirkcaldy, clocked an impressive 22 minutes 57 seconds to place 10th female, second junior at the Sri Chinmoy 5km race at the Meadows, Edinburgh. Stewart Biggar finished in 19 minutes 02 seconds with Alastair Robertson timed at 23 minutes 11 seconds.
