Unfortunately it has been necessary to re-route leg 3, due to an area around Harperleas reservoir being out of bounds, because of a pheasant shoot. The new route map is available from the race page. There is also a new leg 4 map, purely to reflect the renumbering of checkpoints. Runners should take great care not to stray into the out of bounds area, for obvious safety reasons and because we do not have permission to race in this area.

Note also that there is a minor change to the race start point: at the estate's request, it will be a few 100 metres up the estate road from the duck pond. Remember that competitors are not permitted to park at the duck pond car park. It is also likely that Falkland will be busier than usual as a film shoot is taking place. Please car-share as much as possible!

We look forward to seeing all the returning and new Devil's Burdens competitors on Saturday 23rd January.

The third and final East League Cross Country fixture took place on Saturday 16th January in Broxburn. Well done to all the Fife AC athletes who braved the wintery conditions and produced some impressive performances! It was double victory for the Hedley family, as older sister Anna won the U13 girls’ race and younger sister Isla won the U11 girls’ race. Isla also helped the U11 girls’ team to a brilliant second place over the course of the league. There was another top performance from newly crowned Scottish District Inter District Champion Robert Sparks, with the talented U15 narrowly missing the victory by just one second in a very close race. Top Fife AC results are as follows:

  • Senior women: 7 Halina Rees 21.49; 8 Jen Spence 21.53; 33 Ailsa Cruickshanks (U20) 24.19. Second team overall.
  • U13 girls: 1 Anna Hedley 10.43
  • U11 girls: 1 Isla Hedley 6.17. Second team overall.
  • U17 men: 7 George Rees 20.11
  • U15 boys: 2 Robert Sparks 14.15; 11 Craig Morris 15.25; 15 Iain McWhinnie 16.00. Second team overall.
  • U13 boys: 12 Owen Keddie 10.49

On Saturday 16th January Glasgow’s Emirates Arena played host to the National Indoor Open. The club’s top performances of the day came from two of our young sprinters – Layla Zuill and Katie Gardner. Talented U13 Layla won both her 60m and her 200m races in what was her first indoor competition, setting excellent personal bests of 8.64 and 28.77 respectively. U17 Katie also ran two huge outright personal bests of 8.70 in the 60m and 28.54 in the 200m. There was also an indoor personal best over 800m for U17 Euan Boyle, with his 2.01.99 clocking close to his overall personal best set last summer.

Phyllis Lemoncello won the W65 category at the Houston 5K, in 26:31.
