Fife AC athletes were in action at Grangemouth last Sunday contesting the Scottish track relay championships and the veteran championships.

Evergreen John Thomson won both over 55 veteran 1500m and 800m titles. John won the 1500m in a Championship Best Performance of 4 minutes 31.91 seconds and the 800m in 2 minutes 15 seconds. John was actually 2nd overall in the 1500m as Gordon Barrie (Dundee Hawkhill) took the over 40 title in 4:25.87. David Sleigh placed 10th (4:55.16). Ron Morrison won the over 65 hammer title with a throw of 25.74m.

Ken Duncan took the over 55’s 110m hurdles title in 18.40 seconds also a championship best performance.

The trio of Bruce Millar, James Pennycook and Cameron Thomson finished 5th in the under 18 men’s 3 x 800m championship timed at 6 minutes 22.90 seconds while Stephanie Pennycook, Laura Gibson and Annabel Simpson placed 4th in the under 18/Senior Women’s 3 x 800m (7:27.32).

Jenny Tan travelled down south for the Under 23 Track & Field Championships at Bedford last weekend reaching the final of the 800m placing 5th in 2:10.39 following her heat 3rd place (2:11.97).

The Rees family were in record breaking form at the St Andrews Parkrun 5km at Craigtoun Park last Saturday breaking both male and female course records. Under 17 athlete Logan Rees tore around the three lap circuit in 16 minutes 40 seconds one second inside Daniel MacQueen’s previous best set last September. Logan is selected to represent Scotland at the Hill Running Youth Cup in Gap, France on Sunday 7th July. Fergus Ingledew placed 3rd in a personal best 17 minutes 44 seconds.

Under 20 GB athlete Halina Rees placed 6th overall in a new female record of 19 minutes 19 seconds. Amie McKimmie finished 8th overall/2nd female in 19.32 also inside the former record of 19.35.

Carrie Fox, Louise Burt and Liz Killean took on the 52 mile Gold Challenge at the Cateran Yomp last Saturday as team Fifie Wifies. The trio were the 3rd team home and first women's team in 14 hours 39 minutes 30 seconds, about 4 hours behind the winners (defending champions MIB) and the Ghurkhas, who were 2nd.

The Milnathort Dash 5 miler is a Fife AC Grand Prix counter this Thursday 20th. 7.30pm.

The next race in the Beveridge Park 5km series is this Friday 21st June starting at 7.30pm. Entries welcome from all local runners outside the Rugby HQ in the park.

 

The Strawberry Novice run at Cairnie Fruit Farm this Wednesday 26th June aims to encourage both novice runners and beginners over a scenic 2 mile course around the farm centre with those runners who might normally be nearer the back of the field contesting the honours at the sharp end of the field!

As a rough guide runners with a 5km time of better than 23 minutes (females) and 21 minutes (males) are banned !The race starts at 7.45 pm with entries (£3) taken on the night at the Farm Shop. A 1 Km junior race starts at 7.00 pm (P4 and younger) followed at 7.15 pm P5 and older 1km. At 7.30pm a junior two mile. Entry £1.
